49 Guardia Civil special agents arrive to serve on Ibiza during summer

The 29 Guardia Civil GAR agents will carry out port and airport controls, while the 20 GRS agents will patrol in Sant Antoni, where an "increase in crimes of a sexual nature" has been detected.

Twenty GRS (Reserve and Security Group) agents and another 29 from the Guardia Civil GAR (Rapid Action Group) have taken up their temporary posting on Ibiza, where they will remain until the end of the tourist season.

This has been reported by the chief colonel of the Guardia Civil on the Balearic Islands, Alejandro Hernández, who this morning has visited Eivissa to welcome these additional forces at the sa Coma facilities.

At the end of July another 78 new agents will be added to these special units from the Guardia Civil academy, who will spend a year in practice and will be divided between the barracks of Sant Josep, Sant Antoni and Santa Eulària. According to the sources of the armed institute, another 28 agents working on Ibiza and who have requested destination outside the island, will not be transferred until the end of the summer, so that the maximum number of agents will be available during the tourist season.

Guardia Civil agents to focus on controls and sex crimes

After reviewing part of the troops stationed, Colonel Alejandro Hernández has addressed the media and reported the role of the reinforcements which have arrived from the peninsula. Thus, regarding the mission of the GAR he has pointed out that they will focus on “the access controls in ports and airports, since this summer a massive influx of tourists is expected, even greater than that recorded in 2019, with which we believe reinforcement is advisable”. These agents will also carry out citizen security checks.

Regarding the twenty Guardia Civil GRS agents, their work will focus on Sant Antoni: “They are in charge of citizen security and will act in Sant Antoni, where we have seen a significant increase in crimes of a sexual nature. Their mission is to prevent these crimes from occurring and to assist in citizen security during these months”.
