Govern’s campaign to prevent sexual assault at popular festivals

Equality focuses on prevention and awareness of sexual assault among the islands' population

This Tuesday, the Govern will launch a campaign to prevent sexual assault at popular festivals, under the slogan #NoÉsExcusa. The aim is to raise awareness among men that certain actions such as kissing a woman without permission, following, intimidating or touching her are all sexual assault and simply having consumed alcohol or being in a festival atmosphere are not an excuse to do so.

Without fear of sexual assault

The Equality Conselleria said yesterday in a note that their “commitment” is to ensure a summer of festivals in which “everyone can equally enjoy themselves without fear of suffering sexual assalt“. That is why it has put the focus on prevention and awareness among the population, “to avoid having to suffer risky situations for women”.

The campaign consists of a series of posters which outline behaviours that are considered sexual assault, so the population is asked to act if they witness any case of male violence, by warning the Policía Local, for example.

More than 3,000 posters will be distributed among the municipalities of the islands where festivities will again be held this summer, after their interruption due to the pandemic.

Finally, they remind the public  that if any woman suffers a sexual assault or is a victim of gender violence, there is a 24-hour telephone assistance and support service  on 971 178 989 or whatsapp 639 837 476.
