The ‘Festival de Manga i Anime’ arrives in Ibiza

This is the second edition of the festival, which seeks to promote the use of Catalan among children and young people

This Sunday, March 17, the ‘Festival de Manga i Anime’ (FeMA) organized by the Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics (IEB), opens in Sant Josep with the broadcasting of the anime film ‘El meu veí Totoro’, at six o’clock in the evening in the Caló de S’Oli auditorium.

This anime classic will also be screened in Ibiza next Friday, March 22, at five o’clock in the afternoon in the auditorium of Cas Serres, in the second installment of the festival for Ibizan citizens.

In addition, on Saturday, March 25th, the Centro de Creación Joven C19 will host several activities: at five o’clock in the afternoon, a manga drawing workshop with Ibizan artist Paco García. At 6 p.m. Bernat Borràs will offer a colloquium on the translation of manga into Catalan, and an hour later it will be the turn of Irene Miràs, dubbing actress. The day will conclude with a concert by the group Younenki Music at 8 pm.

The ‘Festival de Manga i Anime en català’ is an initiative of the Institut d’Estudis Baleàricsin collaboration with the councils of Ibiza and Formentera and the Ibiza Town Hall, together with town councils and cultural associations from all over the Balearic Islands.

The IEB aims to promote the Catalan language and, in this line, the festival aims to promote it among the younger audience from the culture of manga and anime comics.

The program, which begins in the Balearic Islands on March 15, will last until March 24 with introductory workshops to manga or kanji (Japanese synograms), talks in Catalan with experts in anime and manga, concerts, karaokes, costume contests, exhibitions of illustrations and figures.
