A tragic incident occurred near Cala d’Hort in the municipality of Sant Josep, where a man’s car careened off a cliff. Local police and firefighters were immediately alerted and initiated a search and rescue operation with the assistance of the Vertical Rescue Group (GRV). Sadly, the victim was found lifeless at the scene.

The City Council of Sant Josep has confirmed that the evacuation of the body is currently underway, and the Guardia Civil is leading the operation. The armed forces have identified the victim as a 47-year-old German male, and the vehicle has been completely burned due to the impact. The exact circumstances of the incident remain unknown, and the Guardia Civil is investigating the case with the assistance of the Special Group of Underwater Activities (GEAS) and a public safety patrol. Further details will be disclosed as the investigation progresses.

According to the City Council, the emergency services were alerted after a passerby reported the sighting of an animal tied to a tree with a mobile phone left nearby.

At 5:55 pm, the firefighters were notified and immediately mobilized eight GRV troops to the scene. However, five of the rescuers have already returned to the base after concluding their search efforts. Although the drone unit was activated, it was ultimately not involved in the search operation.

In addition to the ongoing search operation, a support boat from the Civil Protection of Sant Josep equipped with a diver has been deployed to the site as a precautionary measure. While Maritime Rescue was also notified, their intervention was ultimately unnecessary, as confirmed by the marine rescue service.
