Five people injured in Balearics as car plunges off 60-meter cliff

Two of the women had to be rescued by the Bombers de Mallorca and the Guardia Civil helicopter

Five people, three men aged between 40 and 45 and two elderly women aged between 70 and 80, were injured this midday when a car plunged into a ravine some sixty metres deep on the road to the Cura sanctuary, in Algaida. The women were trapped and had to be rescued by the Bombers de Mallorca fire brigade and the Guardia Civil, who mobilised their helicopter.

According to Bombers sources, the accident occurred at about half past one in the afternoon, on the road that goes up to the sanctuary of Cura, at the height of Sant Honorat. The vehicle, in which the five elderly women were traveling, went off the road and plunged into a ravine about sixty meters deep.

To the place were displaced teams of the 061, Guardia Civil and Bombers de Mallorca. Three of the women were able to get out, while two others were trapped inside the vehicle. The Bombers managed to rescue one of them, while the second was awaiting evacuation by the Guardia Civil helicopter.

The Guardia Civil de Trรกfico have initiated proceedings to determine the circumstances of the accident.
