The driver who was involved in an accident on the road to Cala Llonga yesterday morning, in which a woman died, remains at the Hospital de Can Misses, where he was seized by the Guardia Civil last night. The young man, 24, of Indian nationality, departed the site of the collision without calling 911 and left his companion in the vehicle to go to a friend’s house, where he was taken to the hospital.
The incidents occurred at 8.30 a.m. on Sunday, January 2nd. The detainee’s vehicle, a Ford Focus, departed the road on a curve at kilometer 5.200 of the Cala Llonga road, went down a slope, and smashed into a tree. The victim, a 37-year-old lady of Polish nationality, was the co-pilot and died on the spot, according to preliminary reports.
The detainee was driving without a license, drunk and drugged, according to the Guardia Civil, who charged him with reckless homicide, violation of road safety, and neglect to help the victim.
This accident resulted in the first fatality on Ibiza’s roads this year. In 2021, seven people died in road accidents on Ibiza and one on Formentera. Last November, a 52-year-old woman was killed in a deadly accident on the Cam Vell de Sant Mateu.
