Ibiza residents committed to recycling will be able to obtain from today onwards rewards every time they recycle their cans and plastic beverage bottles. This is possible thanks to the commitment of the Consell and the four municipalities adhered to Reciclos, the Return and Reward System (RDS) developed by Ecoembes, which is already implemented in four municipalities of the island: Santa Eulร ria, Sant Josep, Sant Joan and Sant Antoni.
Thus, in an event in Sa Coma, Vicent Roig, island councilor for Environmental Management, has presented Reciclos together with the councilors of environment of the adhering municipalities and Leticia Pou, spokeswoman for Ecoembes in the Balearic Islands. Specifically, this recycling system rewards the citizens recyclers with incentives with which they will be able to help improve the environment or help those who need it most, while continuing to promote the circularity of packaging, that is, giving it a new life through recycling.
In this way, the nearly 102,000 residents of these four municipalities will be able to recycle their cans and plastic beverage bottles in any of the 640 yellow containers located on public roads and obtain rewards that can be donated to various social and environmental projects. Users in Ibiza will also be able to donate their Reciclos points and collaborate with Aldeas Infantiles to help families affected by the earthquakes in Syria.
Roig thanked Ecoembes to have promoted this initiative and to the participating municipalities for their involvement “in a new firm commitment to recycling and, what is also very important, for the quality of recycling”, and pointed out that it is a pending subject that “we all still have to learn”: to recycle well, since the percentage of improper waste in the yellow bin, the waste that does not go in this container, “is still very high. That is why it is so important to promote campaigns like this one that help us to recycle correctly”.
For her part, Leticia Pou, spokeswoman for Ecoembes in the Balearic Islands, thanked the Consell and municipalities “their confidence in betting on Reciclos and to all the inhabitants of the Balearic Islands for the great reception that this system has had. Ibizans recycle more and better and now, thanks to Reciclos, this simple gesture has a positive impact on the environment and also on our surroundings”.
How does Reciclos work?
To make use of this system, citizens only have to download the free app Reciclos and, at home, scan the barcode of the plastic can or bottle they want to recycle before throwing it in the bin. Once on the street, when they go to the yellow garbage can with their packaging bag, they must deposit it there and scan the QR code on the garbage can. This SDR also has machines, where users only have to deposit all their cans and plastic beverage bottles in a Recycle machine and scan the QR that the machine will display.
By using the yellow garbage cans or machines, users will earn points, called Reciclos, which they can exchange for the various rewards available to them.
