Signature collection on Ibiza for a young man with disabilities to study vocational training in gardening

The Pitiusa Association for Educational and Social Inclusion (Apies) wants "the Balearic Ministry of Education to provide the necessary resources" for the young man and others with disabilities.

The Asociación Pitiusa por la Inclusión Educativa y Social (Apies) has started a collection of signatures on the web platform Change.org with the aim that Pablo Valenzuela, a young man with disabilities, can take a FP Básica de Agrojardineria.

Accessible options requested for those with disabilities to study

Specifically, the text detailing the petition requests “that the Department of Education of Ibiza and Formentera facilitate the necessary resources so that the Basic FP is an accessible option for all students, regardless of whether or not they have a disability. This request refers to the accompaniment of an educational technical assistant, necessary for the young person with disabilities to access the studies they want and that, according to their argument, “the administration refuses, for the umpteenth time, to facilitate”.

One week deadline

The president of the Apies, Lola Penín, states that the initiative started on August 22nd has “so far more than 400 signatures” and assures that the aim of the project is “to wait a week and deliver the results to the delegate of Education of Ibiza”. The intention of Pablo’s mother is to enroll him in the period of enrollment between September 1st and 7th.

Also, the association reports that it does not rule out going out to the streets to continue gathering support for their cause: “We will have to ask permission first”. On the other hand, Penín comments that the Apies is still looking for ways to achieve its objective, such as “organizing a demonstration, but nothing has been decided yet”.

No enrollment for 4th ESO

Meanwhile, the association has also requested a meeting with the Education inspector. The reason is the cancellation of the registration so that Valenzuela, now of age, repeats for the third time 4th of ESO in as a student with special educational needs in the institute Algarb of Sant Jordi.

In this case, the Apies proposes that the student “is not without schooling for a year” and that he remains in the same center in which he is studying. However, Penín points out: “The idea is not that they stay in the 4th year of ESO, but that they can do their Vocational Training studies”.

In order to reinforce her reasoning, the document that details the petition also exposes a precedent case in which Justice ruled in favor of the student: “There is already a sentence of the Supreme Court, which gave the reason to another family that fought for many years, which forces the educational Administration to justify that everything possible has been done before referring a student with disabilities to special education and closing the doors of ordinary education”.
