The Govern to ask Costas to demolish the Tagomago beach bar on Ibiza

Helicopter access is limited to emergency cases and access with pets to Tagomago is prohibited.

The Consell de Govern plans to approve the Natura 2000 management plan today for the islets of Llevant de Ibiza, which will allow Tagomago and its marine area, the islets of Santa Eulària or es Canar, which are currently Sites of Community Interest (SCI), to be designated as Special Areas of Conservation (SAC).

The plan will establish objectives and appropriate measures to guarantee the conservation of the habitats and species present and to avoid alterations derived from activities that are currently being developed or that may be developed in the future, as well as to guarantee the development of sustainable uses and activities compatible with conservation.

It should be recalled that the importance of Tagomago is based on the fact that it hosts natural habitats of special importance for wildlife, as well as posidonia meadows, a protected plant, in its marine environment.

From the biological point of view, it is worth mentioning the great vulnerability of the island ecosystems.  Some endemic species of the Balearic Islands inhabit the land area of Tagomago and in the marine ecosystem there is a huge diversity of species in the area. Among the birds, the presence of the Balearic warbler (Sylvia balearica) and the important colony of the endemic Balearic shearwater present on the islet stand out.

The Tagomago beach bar is incompatible

In the same vein, it is planned to demolish the kiosk and bar that is in Tagomago since it may affect the nesting of the shearwater. “The opening and operation of the kiosk-bar and / or any other terrestrial seasonal installation of public or private use located in the public maritime terrestrial domain is considered incompatible with the conservation of the space,” explained the Balearic Ministry of Environment. Thus, with the approved Management Plan, the ministry will formally request the Coastal Demarcation to proceed with demolishing this structure.
