The Policía Nacional is still investigating the shack fire last Saturday in the area of sa Joveria, in the outskirts of Ibiza, in which a homeless person died. At first it was believed that it was a well-known homeless man born in Barcelona, it has now transpired that the dead man is a 49-year-old Romanian , Cristinel I., who lived in the shack destroyed by the flames.
The two police officers who arrived at the scene found a man engulfed in flames outside the burned house. As Diario de Ibiza already published, the victim was still alive and in addition to calling for help, he told the agents: “They have come for me, they have come to kill me.”
This statement and the fact that a witness stated that he saw several people fleeing the area shortly after the flames started, support the suspicions of the investigators that it was a homicide.
In any case, sources close to the investigation do not rule out that the people this witness saw running away also fled from the flames .
“It is very likely” that the fire was arson, insist the same sources.
Forensic police officers were able to take samples of the victim’s fingerprints despite the fact that he had third-degree burns to over 90 percent of his body.
Thanks to these tests, forensic experts were able to identify the deceased on Monday, barely a day and a half after the events took place.
