Two catamaran crew members evacuated to Can Misses Hospital in Ibiza

The two people were suffering from hypothermia at the time of their rescue, more than 20 miles off the coast of Valencia.

Salvamento Marítimo rescued the two castaways from a catamaran late on Saturday afternoon, after it sank more than 20 miles off the Levantine coastline, with no known cause for the capsizing, and transferred them to the Can Misses Hospital in Ibiza with the beginnings of hypothermia.

The Valencia sea rescue service center mobilized a helicopter, the ‘Helimer 220’, and the ‘Salvamar Pollux’ at around 7:20 p.m. upon learning of the emergency affecting the crew members of the vessel, the ‘Sophisticat’, of twelve meters long. The crew members of the vessel were in a lifeboat at the time of the arrival of the helicopter, explained the Rescue communication service.

A rescuer descended from the ‘Helimer 220’ and picked up the two persons, who showed the first signs of hypothermiaand they were transferred to the hospital. The helicopter landed at Can Misses at around 21.15 hours.

For its part, the crew of the ‘Salvamar Pollux’ is in charge of to tow the raft ashore life raft used by the castaways.
