The president of the Consell de Ibiza, Vicent Marí, insisted yesterday that the central government sits down to negotiate a new agreement to finance the road reform projects pending on the island. Marí detailed that, once the central government has settled the outstanding debts of the previous agreement of road infrastructures, an economic injection of 120 million euros is still needed to complete the renovation of the insular network.
“We are not talking about road expansion, but about improvements that affect safety,” Marí specified. Among the projects already being drafted by the Consell de Ibiza, while waiting to receive this investment from the Government, is the creation of shoulders on the road from Sant Josep to Sant Antoni and on the Cala Llonga road, as well as the reconversion of traffic black spots such as the Los Cazadores round-about.
No answer for the Consell de Ibiza as yet
“We have already fulfilled our commitments [of the previous road agreement] and it is time for the State to sign a new agreement and commit to moving forward with the necessary investments to improve road safety.” “We have reiterated our willingness to sit in the mixed commission of the Consell de Ibiza and the central government and we have had no response,” Marí lamented.
The president of the Consell de Ibiza expressed his claim to the State during the presentation of the reform of the E-20 section (the second ring road) to give continuity to the road des Pou d’en Basques, which linked Cas Mut and Ca n’Escandell and was cut with the construction of this road.
The neighbors have been demanding since 2014 that a solution be given to this crossing to walk from one neighborhood to the other, since there were only two crosswalks away from this point, next to the traffic circles of Can Cifre and the one at the new cemetery.
