The Consell criticises the Govern’s investments as “discriminating” against Ibiza

The Conselleria de Hacienda clarifies that due to a change in the way investments are accounted for, the island of Ibiza will receive the same in 2022 as this year, but Mallorca and Menorca will get an increase of more than 30.7% and 41,4%

The governing team of the Consell de Ibiza, formed by the coalition of PP and Ciudadanos, criticizes that the investments planned by the Balearic Govern in 2022 for Eivissa as “discrimination” in comparison with the other islands. The island’s Councillor for the Treasury, Salvador Losa, describes the downward forecast of investments for the Autonomous Community as “questionable” despite the planned increase of 14.5% in resources for the financing of the island’s institution. “There are many pending investments on the island. What this reduction really provokes is discrimination against an island,” said Losa.

As reported yesterday by this newspaper, territorialized expenditure planned by the Autonomous Community in Eivissa in 2022 amount to 132.3 million euros (the sum of capital transfers and investments), representing an increase of 2% over this year. This increase is mainly due to the increase in the funding of the Consell, which will next year reach a total of 60.6 million, 7.7 million than the current year. However, Losa points out that this increase is “regulated” by the law of councils, depending on the income of the Autonomous Community.

The investment budget is down 16% in Ibiza  compared to this year.

However, the Balearic Ministry of Finance explained yesterday that this drop is not real because, at the request of the Sindicatura de Comptes, this year the operating costs of the treatment plants are not included in chapter six of investments, but in the expenditure, so to compare the territorialized investments a total of 10.6 million would need to be subtracted from last year’s amount. With this adjustment, Eivissa would have received 55.9 million this year in investments, the same foreseen in next year’s draft budget. This new accounting system also affects the other islands.
