Ibiza is getting ready to experience one of the most striking and colorful parties of the year: Carnival. This festival is always celebrated 40 days before Maundy Thursday, which this year falls on April 6th, therefore the celebration of ‘don Carnal’ will start on Thursday, February 16th on lbiza with the Dijous Llarder.

The big days of Carnival on Ibiza will be Saturday 18th, when the Sant Josep Carnival parade takes place; Sunday morning, February 19th when the city of Ibiza will celebrate its Carnival parade; and on Tuesday 21st, with the Santa Eulària rúas (5pm) and Sant Antoni (5pm) .

On Formentera the Rúa de Carnaval will take place on February 19th.

As a novelty, the San Josep parade will depart on Saturday, February 18th at 11.30am from the parking lot in front of the Zafiro restaurant in Avenida Sant Agustí 118 in Cala de Bou.

The date for the Rúa de Sant Joan is yet to be announced, although it is traditionally held in the afternoon on the same day as that of Vila.

The festivities will conclude on Ash Wednesday which traditionally celebrates the Entierro de la Sardina (The Sardine Burial), which this year falls on February 22nd.

Commercial hours during Carnival

The 2023 working calendar for the Balearic Islands does not provide a public holiday for Carnival. Sunday 19th is also not considered a commercial opening day, so that stores and large department stores of the island will remain closed.
