British artist Helen Sadler showcases abstract art inspired by Ibiza’s colors

British artist Helen Sadler will be exhibiting her works at the Club Diario de Ibiza from 3 July.

When Helen Sadler (Taunton, Somerset, England, 1979) contemplates the Mediterranean or the Ibizan landscape, she does so with an artist’s eye, recording in her retina all that effervescence of colours and then trying to reproduce them on canvas. This is how most of the works he brings together in his latest exhibition, ‘Abstract colours of Ibiza’, which will open next Monday the 3rd of July at 8 pm in the Club Diario de Ibiza.

“What I pursue is to recreate the colors that are in the nature of the island by capturing its organicity.”explains the artist herself, who has found the inspiration for the paintings in this exhibition in different elements such as “the sea, the rocks or the bougainvillea flowers”. “That painting in blue tones I painted during the pandemic. I went to the beach of Puig des Molins, I put all my attention on the water and then I came home and tried to transfer all that colorful on the canvas,” he says pointing to one of the works that is part of the collection presented at the Club Diario.

The exhibition brings together some ofor more than fifteen abstract workss, all of them created with acrylic paint on canvas. They are all from recent years. The most recent, from 2023, the oldest from 2016, a year after Sadler decided to go all in on painting.

Not all the works exhibited by Sadler on this occasion have arisen from the contemplation of the natural beauty that exists in Ibiza. Some paintings have been created “in an instinctive and intuitive way“, exploring with colors that the creator considers that they can match well.

Explosion of colors

It cannot be said that in the exhibition there are colors that predominate over others, but blue, “which on the island is everywhere”, is very present in ‘Abstract colors of Ibiza’. A large part of the paintings that are part of the exhibition at the Club Diario, each with its own personality and individual characteristicshe says, he made them when he lived in Vila, in the Marina neighborhood.

In any case, whether he takes inspiration from the outside or is guided by instinct, Sadler only paints, he says, when he feels good. “I have to enjoy it because I want good energy in my paintings.”she points out. The particular style of the British artist is the result of an energetic explosion in which she experiments with colors and textures.

The one that opens next Monday, Sadler reminds us, is not the only solo show that she carries out at the Club Diario de Ibiza. Already in 2019, around the same time, he inaugurated ‘Under the influence of Ibiza’, an exhibition also very much influenced by the island in which he has resided permanently since 2011.

Sadler, as she explains, has always had an artistic streak. In fact, she studied art and design in high school and college. She then turned her career to art direction, photography, advertising, film, television, events and graphic design. Working in these creative industries, he says, has helped him move confidently into producing his own artwork. Although the idea of painting had been on his mind since 2012, it was in 2015 when he decided to focus fully on it, without abandoning the other disciplines. Since 2016 he has held multiple exhibitions, most of them in Ibiza.

The exhibition ‘Abstract colours of Ibiza’ can be visited until July 14thfrom Monday to Friday from seven in the evening to nine in the evening at the Club Diario. It is also possible to arrange a different time with the artist by calling 664 14 89 35.
