The Balearic Government ignores the demands of Ibiza and does not change the flexibility measures.

The Balearic government is ignoring the demands of the Consell de Ibiza and the food and beverage industry and is not changing measures to ease restrictions by COVID.

As has been announced in recent days, the Govern plans on 23rd April, Friday to extend the curfew until 11 pm. It would come into effect on Monday, and extend the hours of the terraces from 8:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m., except on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, which must close at 5 p.m. as before.

In addition, the capacity of the terraces is increased to 100%.

The Balearic Minister of Mobility and Housing, Josep Marí Ribas, has reported this morning to the Council of Mayors, meeting in Sant Josep, of the measures that are expected to be approved tomorrow. In addition, Ibiza will remain at level 2.

Apart from what affects to the hotel industry, will will extend the hours of shops until 9:00 p.m. and their capacity up to 75% and the sports competitions on each island will resume from six years.

Regarding the social and family gatherings, it will be allowed the indoors meeting of up to six people from two cohabitant family units, and the same people, but without limiting the cohabitant family units outdoors. These criteria will be applied to beaches, where the use of masks will not be mandatory if the safe distance can be maintained.

Insistence

The president of the Consell de Ibiza, Vicent Marí, has explained that there has been unanimity of all the mayors, also the Socialists, in demanding that tomorrow the Government Council decides, at least for Ibiza, not to interrupt the service on the terraces from 5:00 p.m. At 8:00 p.m., and that the same hours be allowed on weekends. However, there was not unanimity to demand the opening of internal areas

Marí Ribas has promised to forward the demands  of the Council of Mayors and the hospitality industry to the Government Council on 23rd April. However, he acknowledged that this case “is already quite closed and the decree is already under preparation.”

In any event, he said that if it is not taken into consideration now, it will be “in the near future”.

The Balearic Minister has insisted on the need for the de-escalation to be slow so as not to spoil “the sacrifice” that has been done so far. All this in order to keep “the wonderful health figures” to manage the tourist season “with the maximum guarantees”
