The Policía Nacional yesterday arrested a second person in Marbella for his alleged involvement in the disappearance of a 46-year-old female victim of gender violence. As reported by the Provincial Police Station, it is a friend of the missing woman’s ex-partner, who was arrested on Monday and remains in police custody for his alleged participation in the events.

The investigation, carried out by agents of the Local Brigade of Judicial Police of the Marbella Police Station began last Sunday, when the relatives of a woman who had recently suffered a episode of gender-based violence went to police station to report that she was unaccounted for and could not be contacted. In the complaint, the family stated that the woman, a resident of Marbella, had received threats via telephone a few days earlier by her ex-partner, a fact that would have meant a breach of the precautionary measures issued by the judicial authority after his arrest in the middle of december for mistreatment. The relatives also expressed their fear that the body found that same afternoon on a beach in Marbella without a head or hands belonged to their relative, a hypothesis that will have to be confirmed by the police DNA tests.

While the Guardia Civil took charge of the investigation attempting to identify of the woman found on the beach and the circumstances of her death, the Policía Nacional began theirs for the disappearance, although until Tuesday the police version is that there was no evidence linking the two cases. Following the complaint, the Policía Nacional investigators established a search early on Monday morning to locate the woman’s ex-partner, a task that resulted in the suspect, a 45 years old of Colombian nationality, being located early in the morning and was initially arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of breach of restraining order.

Second man arrested

According to the investigation, the victim and the detainee had maintained an intimate relationship of about five months to which the woman ended at the end of November. From that date the problems began, until she filed a complaint at the police station in Marbella for an incident of abuse. The investigators continue to conduct multiple prodedures aimed at clarifying all the facts. The inquiries led yesterday to the arrest of a friend of the main suspect for his alleged involvement in the disappearance.

The proceedings have been declared confidential by the Marbella Court of Instruction number 5.
