Armengol says the increase in senior officials was “necessary”

Francina Armengol claims it is due to the demands of the pandemic and the "greatest management of resources in the history of the Balearic Islands"

The president of the Government, Francina Armengol, defended during the plenary session of Parliament held yesterday the increase in the number of senior officials and public managers to address the “pandemic situation” and the management of “2.4B euros more than the previous government of the PP”. “They were dedicated to cuts and to not providing any public service. We do not have an oversized Government. We have the best management of public resources in the history of the Balearic Islands,” said the president.

The spokeswoman for Ciudadanos, Patricia Guasp, lashed out harshly against the president and denounced that when the Government began its legislature in 2019 they “went from 10 to 11 ministers, from 64 to 74 senior officials and from 50 to 70 positions of trust”. In the same vein, she argued “that is the toll and the first bill that citizens had to pay: 1.5 million more per year “. The leader of Ciudadanos called the new organizational chart a  “megastructure” while calling for the reduction of 15 positions by 2022.

Armengol repeatedly stated that the islands are “well below average” and asked Guasp to look at what they do in the communities where they govern and what they do with their budgets. She also argued that at the time of covid the Govern “unlike everyone else, reduced the political structure and reduced the planned 15 senior officials. That which did not was the Parliament”.

She also reproached Guasp in her speech for not limiting the income of her party or lowering their salaries: “It is absolutely unfair. Do you think that during the pandemic it was not been necessary to have the directors and managers available 24 hours a day throughout the year? Who do you think did the work?
