Adlib Ibiza to highlight island’s connections to its heritage

With the heat and the view of Dalt Vila in the background, the rooftop terrace of the Standard hotel in Ibiza welcomed yesterday at noon the representatives of the 14 firms that will parade in Vara de Rey on Saturday, June 8. The Adlib Ibiza catwalk, which celebrates its 53rd edition, will start at 8.30 pm in Vara de Rey: “An enclave in which it has been more than 30 years since an activity of this style,” says Maria Fajarnés, Councillor for Economic Promotion, Municipal Cooperation and Human Resources of the Consell de Ibiza.

This year the catwalk has been conceived under the motto ‘Connexions’ with the aim of “remembering the connections with our past, our history, our architecture, our landscapes, our craftsmanship…”, says the councilor, while highlighting the link “Adlib with Ibiza and Ibiza with Adlib”. This term has been selected taking into account that this edition is “very special” to coincide with the 25th anniversary of Ibiza as a World Heritage Site.

So that Ibizans can enjoy this celebration, the entrance to Adlib Ibiza will be free and there will be 900 seats at the Vara de Rey promenade. It is also expected that the surrounding neighbors can follow the parade from their balconies, as the catwalk will have LED screens on the sides. In addition, it will be broadcast live by the Television of Ibiza and Formentera.

Among the celebrities invited to participate in the event, the Spanish model Ariadne Artiles will be in charge of presenting the catwalk, in which national models such as Claudia Martín or Nova Vara will parade. They will also be accompanied by the Ibizan model and actress Ana Vide and Nathalia Novas, awarded as best model by ‘L’Oreal Paris’ at this year’s ‘Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week’.

The catwalk on which they will parade will have a width of three meters and will be raised a little more than half a meter above the ground. It began to be assembled yesterday and will be ready throughout this week so that next Thursday the relevant tests can be carried out.

Young promises

The day before Adlib Ibiza will take place the Futur Adlib contest, a catwalk in which six new promises of the fashion world will parade. This contest has been held since 2022 and is aimed at designers who want to make their work known.

This event will be held at the Auditori Caló de s’Oli, in Sant Josep, at 8 pm and will be hosted by journalist Joaquín Prat. The designer Jorge Redondo will preside over the jury, which will include designers Luis Ferrer, Melania Piris, and Alberto Serra and José Antonio Marí, both from Vintage Ibiza.

Twinning with La Palma

As a novelty in the competition, this year there has been the “twinning” of Adlib Ibiza with Isla Bonita Moda, a program for the development and promotion of the textile and creative sector of La Palma, promoted by the La Palma Island Council. The program will open the parade with the proposals of four fashion brands that will be complemented with signature jewelry. After this intervention, “in the last quarter of the year, Adlib Ibiza will travel to La Palma to show their creations in the fashion week of La Palma: ‘La Palma Fashion Week’,” according to Fajarnés.

Among the protagonists of this edition Adlib Ibiza the firm of José Antonio Marí, from Vintage Ibiza, will be the one that will open the parade. He has been participating for 14 years and for this occasion he brings a “brushstroke” of the Bes collection, created in reference to the God Bes, which they will launch next year: “There will be happiness, sensuality, and the party…”, he says about the set with which he wants to show the fabrics, colors and new trends. Marí “loves” that the catwalk is located in Vara de Rey, because he is in favor of parading outdoors: “Because of the light and the environments that exist in Ibiza,” he says, about something he considers that “I had pending”.

The designer Tony Bonet is also enthusiastic about the event in which he has been participating for more than 20 years: “Being from Ibiza and Gold Medal of Ibiza, it is a pride to participate in the most important fashion event of all the Balearic Islands,” he says. In his case he will present the collection “‘New Era Laci’. Laci de lazo, a new change inspired by Ibizan craftsmanship but mixed with new trends and new movements,” says Bonet, before noting that he tries to return to the origins: “We have returned to the style of our time as students, working textures, volume, pattern …. And laci is because of the ties that bind us to what we have around us”. On the catwalk, Bonet will have a dress that “will make a small nod to heritage,” she says.

Other fashion designers include Ibiza Stones, Ivanna Mestres, Monika Maxim Ibiza, Ibimoda, Piluca Bayarri and Virginia Vald. On the other hand, as complement designer firms participate Estrivancus, K de KOSEKOSE, S72 Hat, Elisa Pomar, Dolors Miró Ibiza and Espardenyes Torres.

Craftswoman in the latter, Patricia Montojo Díaz, emphasizes that it is made in Vara de Rey, as an “emblematic” place. As a designer of espardenyes, she offers “a nice look but not to overshadow the shoes,” she says, about the reason why the dresses are similar: “So that the first one draws attention, but when the second one passes by, they already notice the shoes”. In this edition, she has the help of “an artisan friend who makes shawls”, she says, as a wardrobe clue.

In the same line, Dolors Miró, from Dolors Miró Ibiza, also indicates that “the garment will be something very simple”, so that what stands out are the senallons she designs. In her case, this year’s location gives her: “A tremendous illusion, because I am the oldest of the group. It is the nucleus where we used to walk, where we used to meet … And I believe that this has not been lost. It moves me a lot of feelings”.
