€393,500 in fines for 14 illegal tourist rentals in Ibiza

The properties were advertised on platforms and social networks with availability calendar, check-in and check-out indications, reservation cancellations and other services

The Consell de Ibiza has imposed sanctions for a total of 393.500 euros to 14 illegal tourist rentals located in the municipalities of Vila, Sant Josep, Sant Antoni and Santa Eulària.

The 14 sanctioning files have been processed after the tourist inspection service reviewed the homes and found violations in tourism for advertising, contracting and marketing of the properties without having the responsible statement, reported Wednesday the Consell de Ibiza in a note.

Of the 14 files, six carry penalties of 40,000 euros, one of them plus 4,000 euros for obstructing the work of the inspectors, y six others for 20,000 euros. The other two remaining rentals have been fined €17,500 and €12,000.

From the insular administration they remind that none of the properties was susceptible of tourist commercialization and the advertising of all of them was carried out without having presented the responsible declaration of the beginning of the tourist activity and without being registered in the Insular Register.

Platforms and social networks

The homes were advertised on platforms and social networks with availability calendar, check-in and check-out indications, reservation cancellations and other services.

The insular councilor for the Fight Against Intrusiveness, Mariano Juan, has pointed out that both in the last legislature and in this one there is a “real paradigm shift in the fight against intrusiveness”.

He pointed out that more than 400 illegal ads have already been removed from the platforms, 90 hosts with illegal ads have been identified through the protocol with Airbnb, more than 170 files are in process and 1.3 million euros in penalties have been collected.

For Juan it is about “putting an end” to the “feeling of impunity that reigned in Ibiza”. “Not everything goes and we have the determination and the tools to fight intensely against those who take advantage of our island,” concluded the councilor.
