3,410 adverse vaccine effects reported, 319 of them classified as “serious”

Almost half of the reports related to vaccine effects, 1,701, correspond to Pfizer vaccinations

Since the start of the vaccination campaign against covid in December 2020, the Balearic Islands has recorded a total of 3,410 reports of adverse vaccine effects after receiving a vaccine against the coronavirus, most of them mild, according to data from the Health Department, although up to 319 of them, 9% of the total, were considered  serious.

The Regional Ministry explained that these effects coincide with vaccination dates, but that this does not necessarily mean that they are related to vaccination. “The Ministry of Health and the Spanish Medicines Agency’s coordinating centre is responsible for establishing the causal relationship,” they reminded the public.

Of the total number of adverse event reports, 1,701 correspond to patients vaccinated with Pfizer, 764 with Moderna, 860 with AstraZeneca and 82 with Janssen. A further three reports did not specify vaccine. However, if these figures are put in relation to the vaccinated population, the highest rate of adverse effects is among AstraZeneca patients. In Spain, 50,824 reports of adverse events had been recorded up to 14th November, including 346 deaths which, the Medicines Agency pointed out, “cannot be considered to be related to vaccines simply because they were reported”.
