The 061 suicide prevention and care team has attended 100 people in the Pitiüses just in the first five months of the year. Data that include both the ideation or “suicide consummated in situ”,  confirms the team, which notes that the latter refers to “suicide deaths that are not transferred to the hospital”, since their statistics do not include those persons treated on site but who later died. There have been 101 in total: 96 between January and May and another five on Formentera.

Almost six out of ten of those treated for suicide were men, according to the partial report, although there are differences between Eivissa and Formentera. On the latter island, four of the five recorded cases were women. May is the month with the highest number of attendances, a total of 26 (23 on Eivissa and 3 on Formentera) while the opposite situation occurs in March, with 15 attendances.

The 061 suicide prevention and care team in the Pitiüses attended 24 people between 40 and 49 years, the largest age group, followed by those in their thirties (22) and those in their twenties (21). The number of visits fell from the age of 60 onwards: seven visits, five to people between 60 and 70, one to people between 70 and 79 and one to people over 80. A total of eleven patients under twenty years of age were attended, all of them in Eivissa. Of the latter, six of the patients were under 15 years of age, while the remaining five were between 15 and 19 years of age.

During the first five months of this year the specialized team of 061 has made 101 interventions in the Pitiüses: 96 on Eivissa and 5 on Formentera.

6 Minors of just 14 years old assisted by the suicide prevention team

Between January and May of this year the professionals of this unit have attended six minors of just 14 years old. To these, another five boys and girls between 15 and 19 years of age should be added.

Suicide care rate per hundred thousand inhabitants is 136.7

The rate of suicide care by 061 on Eivissa is 136.7 per hundred thousand inhabitants, the lowest in the Balearic Islands after Formentera, which is 51.25.
