The tension increases between PSOE and Gent per Formenterra (GxF), the Consell’s government team, where there is little more than a year to the next election. The differences have become evident now through the process of awarding the ‘chiringuitos‘ (beach kiosks) (six of a total of eight have already been scored) of the island. Among the bids best valued by the contracting table none belong to the previous holders, who would provisionally be left out, a situation that has generated strong discontent and social uproar.
The president of the Consell, Ana Juan, in an interview with the island’s public radio, Rร dio Illa, criticised the “lack of consistency and responsibility” from her GxF government partners for having attended the minute of silence ‘for the death of the traditional model’ of the service that was call on April 14 in the Plaza de la Constituciรณ of Sant Francesc by the local association of kiosk owners.
GxF defends position
GxF has responded that “it is free to support those claims” it deems appropriate. And neither of the two parties goes further in their statements.
The call for protest was supported by Sa Uniรณ and Pimef and was attended by GxF councilors, who were present “not to protest but to apologize and to show their faces”, since they understood “the indignation” of the people, as they declared in a statement hours before the demonstration.
The presence of the government partners at this event did not please the president.
In one of her answers to Rร dio Illa journalist Pepo Rubio, who was interested in knowing what she thought of the position of Sa Uniรณ that criticized, at the time, the fact that the contest rules had not passed through the plenary of the institution, Ana Juan replied: “With all due respect to the opposition, they make their policy. [The conditions] were approved by the Consell de Govern because the administrative procedure indicated it and [I want to] emphasize that no one has challenged these conditions.” “When you present yourself as a bidder you accept them, everyone was aware of them, everyone who presented themselves knew what importance the technical specifications, the improvements and the economic offer had in these specifications.”
