The president of the Consell de Formentera, Ana Juan, announced yesterday that the institution will present claims to the draft maritime transport decree that is being processed by the Balearic Govern “to improve the wording and include the interests of Formentera”.
These were her first statements after holding an online meeting with the Balearic Minister of Mobility, Josep Marรญ, who presented before all the councils the main points of the decree which is being processed by the Executive and that sets minimum services for the strategic lines of the Balearic Islands, such as the Pitiusas, the Ibiza with Palma link and the Alcudia and Ciutadella line.
The aspects defended by the Consell are regular minimum services all year round, avoiding overlapping of departures and regulating and limiting day trips.
Ana Juan praised the initiation of the administrative procedures to approve this decree after more than a decade, which is nothing more than practical developments of the Maritime Transport Law passed in 2010.
“This decree must include the minimum services that ensure the mobility of the people of Formentera”. Juan pointed out that “the maximum frequencies are not regulated” in the text: “It is true that with the APB ordinance we will somehow manage to reduce these maximum frequencies, especially in July and August”.
The new rule of the Port Authority limits the docking maneuver to a single ship both in the ports of Ibiza and Formentera to avoid simultaneous departures.
Trips to Formentera
The president pointed out that this draft decree also distinguishes and separates tourist and recreational transport (day trips) from regular transport of passengers and goods. Ana Juan indicated that they must now study the draft in depth “and see if we can make contributions prior to its approval so that all our needs are included”.
She will also ask the Balearic Minister of Mobility, the former mayor of Sant Josep, “to come to Formentera to explain what is included in this maritime transport decree to all sectors and that it is a participatory process because everyone needs to know, first hand, what this document includes and that contributions can be made”.
