Autumn art fair on Formentera will be thought-provoking

The art fair will be accompanied by parallel activities, such as a performance, a conference and a round table.

The Jardรญ de ses Eres de Sant Francesc on Formentera, will host the art fair “Fira de Tardor d’Art” a new cultural event between October 6th-9th, in which every day between 10am and 10pm a space will be created for art exchange open to citizens. The inauguration will take place on Thursday 6th, at 7pm.

“This new event takes the essence of the old Fira d’Art de Primavera, with the aim of an annual showing of the best productions of resident artists and recurrent visitors of Formentera,” explained the Councilor for Culture, Susana Labrador, who invited the entire population of the island to enjoy the art fair at a time that invites us to “reflect”. The initiative is that of the Associaciรณ d’Artistes de Formentera (ADAF) and is curated by Tanja Grass, director of the Drap-Art Festival and a resident of the island since 1965.

This first year counts on the participation of fifteen artists: works by Sol Courreges Bonรฉ de la Torre, Fran Lucas Simรณn, Marรญa Teresa Matilla Lรณpez, Jorge Traverso and Woff Kahlen; paintings by Maribel Escandell Guasch, Diana Masiliauskas, Marรญa Lagrange, Enric Riera and Antoni Taulรฉ; photographs by Fabiana Schulz; sculptures by Pablo Arias and Lorenzo Pepe, and videos by Albert Merino and Juan Gonzรกlez Fornรฉs.

“This art fair is a platform where artists can develop more personal, reflective works; with the problems of tourist saturation and climate change, critical mass is needed to open the debate on the necessary social change, and here, in Tardor d’Art, artists have a space to show what moves and worries them”, says the curator, Tanja Grass.

Art Fair features daily program

In addition, the art fair has a daily program. On the first day after the opening, at 8pm the artist Crystn Hunt Akron will present a performance entitled ‘Plasticphonia’. On Friday 7th, from 6pm- 8pm, there will be a workshop on good professional practices in the arts and the professionalization of cultural workers by visual artist and cultural manager Laura Marte.

On Saturday 8th, from 7pm-8pm, there will be a round table ‘The current situation of the arts in the Balearic Islands. Similarities and differences’, with the participation of artists and cultural agents linked to Formentera.

And finally, on Sunday 9th, from 7pm to 8pm, the fair will close with the presence of Elena Ruiz, director of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Ibiza (MACE), with the lecture ‘Isabel Echarri/La Reina Blanca’.
