The forced eviction of Don Pepe’s Ibiza neighbors begins

After the residents on stairs 3, 4, and 5 of Don Pepe apartments depart, block A should be totally abandoned today

The Sant Josep Policía Local, in collaboration with the Guardia Civil, began early this morning the process of evicting families still residing in the Don Pepe buildings in es Codolar.

Families remaining in block A of the Don Pepe apartments in es Codolar must vacate their homes today in order to comply with the deadline set by the Palma Court of Litigation number 3. This will be the third forced eviction from block A, which should be completely empty today following the departure of residents from stairs 3, 4, and 5. Yesterday, the government team refused to explain the police device that will be used to evict the families residing in this property declared in ruins by the City Council.

At quarter to seven a.m., the Guardia Civil was already controlling access to the Don Pepe apartments, and at eight a.m., four cars from this body and three others from the Sant Josep Policía Local arrived. A locksmith has unlocked door 3 in order to begin the eviction.

Eviction of Don Pepe

According to a City Council spokesman yesterday, nine of the affected families (approximately 24) already have keys to the Bon Sol apartments, the temporary housing offered by the Consistory for two months extendable for another two, three others have been authorized to settle, and seven others are pursuing social services assistance for the payment of rent for another home.

Silvia Hernandez, president of the Association of Neighbors of the Don Pepe buildings and spokesperson for those displaced, estimates that this third eviction will affect approximately 50 people, including five children and a newborn. “It’s a particularly bitter pill to swallow. Emotionally, the people are absolutely awful.” Yesterday, the spokeswoman for those affected, who spent two months in the Bon Sol apartments, lamented that  “it is something very fleeting. It consists of a room with one or two beds and a kitchen area equipped with a hotel refrigerator. I’m not sure how children’s families will be organized.” she stated.
