Covid on Ibiza: 3rd vaccination doses stagnate at 40%

Ibiza and Formentera are the islands where the least number of people have received the 3rd booster vaccination for covid

In the last fortnight just over 1,200 third doses of the vaccine against covid (1,168 in Ibiza and another 58 in Formentera) have been administered in the Pitiusas. The administration of the booster shots has been completely stagnant for just over a month, according to updated data from the covid viewer of the Balearic Ministry of Health.

At the moment, less than 40% of the population of the Pitiusas has received the booster dose, a percentage far below that of the rest of the Balearic Islands. On Ibiza, 39.7% of the population, a total of 48,680 people, have received this extra dose of the covid vaccine. The figure is even lower on Formentera, where it has been administered to barely one in three inhabitants: a total of 3,227 residents. This, while in the Comunitat as a whole the triple vaccination rate is about to reach 50% of the population, something that is due to the island of Mallorca, where over 50% of inhabitants already have three doses.

During the last week the vaccination teams have been jabbing about 74 people every day on Ibiza with the booster dose, the covid viewer shows, a figure well below those recorded during the first weeks in which the third jabs were about a thousand a day. The record number of booster doses in one day was reached on January 19, with 1,332, according to the Ministry’s graphs. The administration of third doses shot up at the beginning of November, when the booster vaccination was opened to the general population. From that moment on, with the exception of weekends, between 700 and more than 1,000 vaccines were administered. The drop occurred as of January 25th. During that week, the daily number of inoculations did not exceed 500, and since January 31st, the figure has not exceeded 315 recorded on February 4th.

In the case of Formentera, only 25 extra doses have been administered in recent days. In contrast to Ibiza, this island does not show such marked stages in the administration of these vaccines. The maximum number of third doses inoculated in one day was recorded on December 27th , when 110 vaccines were administered, according to the indicator.

Ibiza with the least vaccinated against covid

Ibiza remains the Balearic island with the least vaccinated population, 84.5%, a figure that is below the Balearic average (86.2%) and, above all, that of Menorca, where at least nine out of ten citizens are fully vaccinated.

In recent weeks the number of people who decide to be vaccinated against the coronavirus, that is, those who get the first dose, has been reduced to a minimum. In the case of Ibiza, during the first two weeks of March only 55 first doses were administered. Also 776 second doses. In fact, of the 1,904 doses that were administered in those fourteen days on the island, practically six out of ten (57.2%) were booster doses.

The figures on Formentera are very similar. In these first two weeks of the month 112 vaccines were administered on the island and more than half of them, 52.7% were third doses. On Formentera, only four people finally decided to be vaccinated, as revealed by the viewer of the Conselleria de Salud.

So far, more than 4,000 people of the Pitiusas have explicitly shown their refusal to be vaccinated against the coronavirus: 3,820 in Ibiza and 253 in Formentera. Ibiza remains the island with the highest number of people against administering the vaccine, and a by far more with respect to the other islands: one refusal for every 33 people who have received at least the first dose. On Formentera this indicator is one person who refuses to get the vaccine for every 39.2 who do, a figure that is similar to the average for the Balearic Islands as a whole. On Mallorca there is one refusal for every 40.4 acceptances and on Menorca for every 38.
