Suspect arrested for arson at two commercial premises in Platja d’en Bossa

A 48-year-old German man is the alleged perpetrator of the fire in two commercial premises that forced the evacuation of a building in the early morning of October 19 in Alzines street, in Platja d’en Bossa, a few meters from the main road, as reported by the Guardia Civil, which has already arrested the subject, he says.

Already from the first moment, at the foot of the fire, from the armed forces indicated that the fire was under investigation. Then, it began to to collect the testimonies of the victims of the fire and the victims of the flamesincluding those who had to leave their homes in the early hours of the morning, as well as the owners and managers of the two establishments affected on the first floor: a motorcycle rental shop and a bar.

In addition, the agents visualized the images of several security cameras that were in the area, already belonging to the municipality of Sant Josep.

Thanks to the recordings they were able to identify the detainee, who is accused of a crime of arson with danger to persons, as well as another of damage. In this sense, the note of the Civil Guard details that the value of the damage caused is around 400,000 euros.

The flames apparently started in one of the first floors and the fire forced the evacuation of the two-story building above it at around 5:30 am. Six houses were affected by smoke and flamesaccording to firefighters, who had to rescue two people. Four of those evicted had to be treated by the health services for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters had to make dives to access the premises where the fire was concentratedthe fire mainly affected the motorcycle rental business, which burned around 40 motorcycles. The ATM between this business and the bar, which was also forced to close, was also rendered unusable.
