The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has warned of a change of weather this week in Ibiza and Formentera. “The change of weather is being confirmed”, publishes in its social networks the Aemet, with a “strong destabilization of the atmosphere from Wednesday, August 14”.
This atmospheric instability will be accompanied by “very intense rains and storms”, the Aemet specifies, due to the fact that a cold wave of the atmospheric circulation of high levels will penetrate the Mediterranean and will be isolated in the form of a dana. This will put an end to the heat wave in the islands.
For this reason, the Aemet has activated the orange risk on Wednesday for rainfall of up to 50 liters per hour and storms that could be accompanied by hail, which may exceed two centimeters in diameter, as well as very strong gusts of wind that can reach 100 kilometers per hour. The alert will remain active from 12 to 19 hours. From that time until midnight, the alert becomes yellow for storms and accumulated rainfall of up to 25 liters per square meter.
The forecast for Ibiza is 90% probability of showers and storms on Wednesday. The rains will last until Friday, giving way to a sunny weekend.
Temperatures will remain those days of instability between 20 and 31 degrees.
Torrid night in Formentera
Tonight minimums of 25 degrees were recorded in Formentera, a torrid night, while in Ibiza did not exceed 22 degrees in Vila and the airport; 21 degrees in Sant Antoni and 19 degrees in Sant Joan.
As for the maximum temperatures recorded this Sunday, Sant Antoni and Sant Joan reached 38 degrees, followed by Ibiza with 36 degrees and the airport and Formentera, with 32 degrees.
