This is how storm ‘Alice’ devastated 2 beaches in Ibiza

Storm Alice (known in Spain as a DANA) has left a trail of destruction across Ibiza and Formentera. The intense downpours over the weekend caused chaos in the streets and along the coast, destroying beaches and beach bars — some built on former streambeds, which explains their vulnerability.

Alice’s mark on the north of the island

In the north of the island, in Portinatx, the local beaches of Arenal Gros, Arenal Petit and Cala Xarraca were practically washed away. In the main sandy area of Portinatx, the Can Sans stream turned into a raging river, flowing at tremendous speed and sweeping away everything in its path.
These three beaches in the municipality of Sant Joan endured an exceptional volume of rainfall over two days — a total of 183 litres per square metre — with 65.2 litres recorded on Saturday the 11th and another 70.2 litres on Sunday the 12th.
