Govern’s budget cuts investment in Ibiza by 16% in 2022

Total expenditure and investment on the island of Ibiza rises by 2% due to improved funding from the Consell

Investment in Ibiza is set to fall by 16% in next year’s budget from the Comunitat Autònoma. Overall, due to an increase in funding from the Consell, Ibiza will receive, in what is known as territorialised expenditure (the sum of transfers and investments that directly affect the island), a total of 132.3 million euros, 2% more than this year.

The municipality of Ibiza will receive 12.2 million euros, 25% more than this year, with a total of 9.6 million euros in investments, an increase of 70% on this year’s budget.

In total, the island will receive 55.9 million euros in investment: 48.9 million from the ministries of the autonomous government and only seven million from public companies, such as the Balearic Housing Institute (Ibavi) and the Balearic Water Agency (Abaqua), among others. As happens every year, the bulk of the investments planned for Ibiza are earmarked for the payment of the shadow toll for the airport and Sant Antoni motorways, which were completed in 2007. Next year, a sum of 29.1 million euros, 52% of the total investments, is planned for the payment of the bill for the motorways. In total, including all transfers, the territorialised expenditure of the Autonomous Community in Menorca in 2022 amounts to 131.4 million, 900,000 euros less than Eivissa.

In Menorca, investments of 55.2 million euros are planned, 700,000 euros less than in Ibiza. In total, including all transfers, the territorialised expenditure of the Comunitat Autònoma in Menorca in 2022 amounts to 131.4 million, 900,000 euros less than Ibiza.

Formentera’s territorialised spending will amount to 16.2 million euros, 200,000 euros more than this year. The Govern plans to invest 4.2 million euros in Formentera, 5.2 per cent more than this year.
