The Ibiza Island Council has agreed with local residents to retain the last departures on the T6 and A9 routes, adjust a service for IES Balàfia students and trial a new night bus connection at weekends.

Northern Ibiza will have a new night bus service from November 1, 2026, when the winter public transport timetables come into effect. The Ibiza Island Council (Consell d’Eivissa) will launch a pilot service on the N3 night bus, connecting Ibiza Town with several villages in the north of the island on Friday and Saturday nights and on the eve of public holidays.

The initiative is part of a series of changes agreed with local residents’ and business representatives. Alongside the new night service, the 9.30 pm departures on the T6 and A9 routes will be retained, while one bus timetable will be adjusted to help students get home from IES Balàfia secondary school. The updated timetables will be available on the Alsa website.

The changes were discussed at a meeting attended by Mariano Juan, the island’s first vice-president and councillor for Mobility; Roberto Algaba, the island director of Transport; representatives of bus operator Alsa; Sant Joan Town Council; and residents’ and business associations from Sant Miquel, Port de Sant Miquel and Portinatx.

N3 night bus: Four departures from Ibiza Town

One of the main changes is the introduction of the N3 night bus on a trial basis, providing connections between Ibiza Town and several communities in the north of the island.

The route will start at CETIS bus station in Ibiza Town, calling at Santa Gertrudis, Sant Miquel, Port de Sant Miquel, Portinatx, Sant Joan and Sant Llorenç before returning to the island’s capital.

The service is planned to run every Friday and Saturday night and on the eve of public holidays throughout the year. There will be four departures from CETIS:

  • 10 pm
  • 11.50 pm
  • 1.15 am
  • 2.45 am

The pilot scheme aims to measure demand for night-time public transport in northern Ibiza and assess how the service performs before the authorities decide what connections are needed in the area.

Mariano Juan said the initiative is intended to give northern residents, particularly young people, an alternative to travelling by private car.

“With this pilot scheme, we want to offer a night-time transport alternative for residents in the north of the island, especially young people, so they can get around without having to use a private vehicle. We are launching the service and will assess how it operates to understand the response from passengers and determine the needs of this connection,” he said.

T6 and A9 bus routes to retain their 9.30 pm departures

The new winter timetables will also preserve two late-evening connections between Ibiza Town and the north of the island.

The T6 route, which links Ibiza Town with Sant Llorenç and Sant Joan, will continue to run at 9.30 pm. The same applies to the A9 route, which connects Ibiza Town with Santa Gertrudis, Sant Miquel and Port de Sant Miquel.

Both departures will remain in service from November 1, preserving public transport options into the evening for people travelling to and from these communities.

Revised bus timetable for IES Balàfia students

Another change follows a request from families of students at IES Balàfia, who had asked for a bus passing through Sant Llorenç to be timed to coincide with the end of the school day.

The adjustment will allow students to catch public transport towards Ibiza Town after classes finish.

Under the revised timetable, the service will depart from Portinatx at 1.40 pm, following this schedule:

  • 1.40 pm: Departure from Portinatx.
  • 1.55 pm: Arrival in Sant Joan.
  • 2.06 pm: Stop in Sant Llorenç, coinciding with the end of classes at the secondary school.
  • 2.41 pm: Expected arrival in Ibiza Town.

Changes agreed with residents in northern Ibiza

The three changes form part of the adjustments the Ibiza Island Council has been making to the public transport network since the new service contract came into force in April.

Mariano Juan said the first winter timetables under the new contract provide an opportunity to continue adapting routes and connections to the needs raised by passengers.

“Since the new public transport contract came into effect last April, we have been introducing adjustments to tailor the service to passengers’ needs. Now, with the first winter timetables under the new contract, we are continuing to work to improve connections and respond to requests from residents and different groups across the island,” he said.

The councillor also highlighted the importance of maintaining dialogue with town councils, residents’ associations and business representatives to identify potential improvements to routes and service frequencies.

“The new contract allows us to adjust services and frequencies as we go. That is why it is important to listen to town councils, residents and the different sectors affected, consider their requests and introduce changes wherever feasible to improve public transport,” he concluded.
