Torres Cinema to reopen: the Consell de Ibiza buys it to transform it into a new cultural space

The Consell de Ibiza has finalised the purchase of the former Torres Cinema, a landmark building located on Carrer Bisbe Torres in Sant Antoni, which will now become public property and be transformed into a cultural and heritage space.

The President of the Consell, Vicent Marí, and the Councillor for Culture, Education and Heritage, Sara Ramón, signed the deed of acquisition before a notary alongside the former owners, completing an administrative process carried out in collaboration with Sant Antoni Town Council. The council’s plenary session had unanimously approved the proposal urging the island institution to acquire the property.

The total purchase price amounts to €2,750,000, of which €2,417,331.66 comes from a grant under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (Next Generation EU funds), while the remaining €342,668.34 will be financed with the Consell de Ibiza’s own funds.

Marí highlighted that “this initiative forms part of the transformation Sant Antoni is undergoing, in which the Consell is actively collaborating with the Town Council and local residents to enhance the quality of the urban centre and turn the municipality into a friendlier, more modern and culturally vibrant place. Recovering the Torres Cinema is another step forward in this process of dignifying Sant Antoni”.

For her part, Councillor Sara Ramón stated: “With this purchase we are fulfilling a long-standing wish of local residents and a commitment made by the Consell d’Eivissa, which we are now making a reality. The Torres Cinema is part of the collective memory of the municipality, and it will once again become a space for culture and social gathering”.

The Department of Culture will immediately begin drafting the preliminary, basic and executive rehabilitation projects, with the aim of converting the building into a cultural and heritage centre open to all residents of Ibiza. The initiative will strengthen both the municipality’s cultural offering and the island’s architectural heritage.
