Storm ‘Ingrid’ hits Ibiza: rain, hail, gale-force winds and up to 53 incidents

Storm Ingrid caused a difficult early morning in Ibiza, bringing rain, hail and strong wind gusts that led to as many as 53 incidents across the island, according to figures from the 112 Emergency Coordination Centre.

Between 18.00 on Sunday and 6.00 on Monday, a total of 83 incidents were recorded across the Balearic Islands: 53 in Ibiza and 30 in Mallorca. Of these, 78 had already been resolved by the early-morning update.

Fallen trees and road obstructions due to storm Ingrid

On Ibiza, wind was the main cause of disruption, with a particularly high number of fallen trees and obstacles blocking roads, including trunks, branches and other debris dragged by the gusts. Most reports of fallen trees were concentrated on the island, with 22 cases out of a total of 24 across the archipelago. Likewise, Ibiza accounted for 15 of the 23 incidents involving trees falling directly onto roadways. Other incidents included the collapse of urban elements, disruptions to basic services, and several reports of rockfalls and hazardous situations.

The storm also affected maritime connections. The port of Ibiza was closed for several hours but returned to normal operations from 22.30 on Sunday, according to the 112 emergency service.

The impact of the wind was also felt in infrastructure and businesses. One of the most striking incidents occurred at the industrial estate on the Santa Eulària road, where strong gusts tore off the roof of a warehouse near the Eroski supermarket. In addition, heavy hail was reported in the airport area.

In Sant Josep, the Town Council reported that over the past 24 hours its patrols were fully deployed, responding to more than twenty storm-related incidents, including fallen trees, detached fencing, damaged signage, leaning lampposts and hazardous objects on the roadway.
