Storm Harry has kept Ibiza and Formentera on high alert throughout Tuesday. The orange warning for coastal phenomena issued by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has led to the cancellation of most maritime connections between the Pitiusas and both Mallorca and the Spanish mainland.
According to the weather forecast, waves of between four and five metres are expected, with the possibility that some could reach heights of close to ten metres. Winds are blowing from the north-east, with gusts of up to 70 kilometres per hour.
The orange alert for coastal conditions is currently expected to remain in force until 20.00 on Tuesday.
Shipping company Baleària has announced via its social media channels that, due to adverse weather conditions, all maritime services between the mainland and the Balearic Islands, as well as inter-island connections, have been cancelled. For the time being, the company is maintaining the Ibiza–Formentera route, although it has not ruled out changes to the timetable throughout the day.
In addition, persistent overnight rainfall has kept the Pitiusas under a yellow alert until 18.00. These rains have already caused several incidents. Firefighters from the Ibiza Island Fire Service received a number of early-morning calls reporting fallen trees in the municipalities of Santa Eulària, Sant Joan and Sant Antoni.
According to the latest forecast, rainfall is expected to continue until Wednesday morning, with conditions forecast to begin improving from around 12.00 onwards.
