The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has several weather warnings in force for Ibiza and Formentera due to Storm Harry, with the highest alert level, orange, expected over the next few hours. The storm, which began last Saturday, is now entering a phase of greater instability, particularly between Monday and Tuesday.
For this Monday, Aemet has issued several yellow-level warnings for rain and wind in the Pitiusas. Specifically, accumulated rainfall of up to 20 litres per square metre in one hour is expected between 12.00 and 23.59, as well as up to 60 litres per square metre over a 12-hour period during the afternoon and part of the night. The probability of precipitation ranges between 40% and 70%.
As for the wind, maximum gusts of up to 70 kilometres per hour are forecast, with northerly and north-easterly winds expected to particularly affect coastal areas from 20.00 onwards until the end of the day.
Rainfall has been persistent throughout the day, although with brief lulls. According to Aemet data published this morning on social media, accumulated rainfall has reached 14 litres per square metre in Formentera, 10 litres at Ibiza Airport, eight litres in Sant Antoni and one litre per square metre in Ibiza Town.
Maximum alert on Tuesday
The most severe episode is forecast for Tuesday, when an orange alert for coastal phenomena will be in force from 6.00 to 23.59. Aemet warns of north-easterly winds of force seven to eight, equivalent to speeds of between 55 and 70 kilometres per hour, as well as heavy seas with waves of four to five metres. Maximum waves could reach between eight and 10 metres. In addition, a prior warning for north-easterly swell of three to four metres will remain in place during the early hours of Tuesday, signalling a significant deterioration in sea conditions.
Meteorologists are urging extreme caution in coastal areas, ports and maritime activities, as the storm could cause incidents both at sea and along the coastline. Aemet continues to monitor the evolution of Storm Harry and does not rule out updates to the weather warnings in the coming hours.
