Steps of solidarity in the Cursa per la Dona charity race on Ibiza for Aemif

The popular charity race raises almost 500 euros, which will go towards the new neurorehabilitation centre and attending to 20 new users.

Under the slogan ‘Somos la revolución’ (We are the revolution) on Sunday morning tenth edition of the Cursa per la Dona charity race was held, organized by the Ibiza City Council, after it had to be suspended last Sunday due to adverse weather conditions. Despite coinciding with another sporting event, participation in the charity race was higher than expected, with a total of 163 registrations, although just over a hundred came to the start line in ses Figueretes, according to Cristóbal Gómez, one of the organisers.

The participants, mostly women, ran 2,750 meters to Can Raspalls, in Sant Jordi, and have managed to raise 489 euros (three euros per person) which will go to the Multiple Sclerosis Association of Ibiza and Formentera (Aemif). Its manager, Ismael Vargas, explains that, this and the other charity races included in the eighth edition of ‘Corre por las enfermedades neurológicas’ (Run for neurological diseases), aim to raise awareness of these illnesses that, in the case of multiple sclerosis, affects more women, with three out of four diagnoses.

For Vargas it is essential to unite sport and functional diversity, even more so when the activity has a solidarity component. The proceeds will be used for the new neurorehabilitation center, whose work will be completed in July and which has an investment of 430,000 euros. “It will provide coverage for more than 20 people who are on the waiting list due to lack of space,” he explained, and who will be added to the 130 people currently being cared for by Aemif.
