The Sant Josep Town Council unanimously approved on Thursday morning a request for the Government to declare the entire municipality a “seriously affected area” due to a civil protection emergency, following the heavy rains that occurred on 30 September. All political groups — from the Popular Party to the Socialists, Ara Eivissa, Unidas Podemos and Vox — supported the proposal during an extraordinary and urgent plenary session in which this was the only item on the agenda.
Mayor Vicent Roig defended the request, explaining that, given the serious damage caused by Storm Ex-Gabrielle as it passed through the Pitiusas, the Council of Ministers should declare the entire municipality of Sant Josep a disaster area. Roig noted that such a declaration would allow both the local authority and residents to access various forms of aid and subsidies, as well as simplify procedures with the insurance consortium.
