The Govern’s Council of Mayors approved this morning, in an extraordinary session attended by the Vice President and Minister of the Presidency, Coordination of Government Action and Local Cooperation, Antònia Maria Estarellas, the creation of two lines of aid worth €5 million to support individuals and businesses affected by the storm Ex Gabrielle on 30 September and the DANA on 10 October.
At the same time, the Consell de Govern of the Balearic Executive approved the declaration of the entire island as a seriously affected area to be sent to the central government. Although the municipalities of Sant Joan and Sant Antoni were spared during Ex Gabrielle, they suffered considerable damage during the October DANA. The Consell d’Eivissa will formally endorse this declaration at its next plenary session.
Estarellas explained that the €5 million package will be non-repayable. There will be two lines of aid: one aimed at covering damage to homes — including essential household goods and basic necessities — and to vehicles declared a total loss by insurers as a result of the heavy rains. The second line will support commercial, tourist and industrial establishments, as well as self-employed workers, with grants starting at €2,000 and reaching up to €10,000 per business.
“The aid will reach everyone, and if it falls short, we will extend it. This is an initial amount that will, of course, be increased if necessary”, said Estarellas.
