The beach of ses Figueretes is far from its best appearance. Practically deserted, with no tourists and only a few people walking along the promenade, the area feels unusually quiet. The hotels are closed and only a couple of restaurants remain open. One of them, however, had its terrace full this Thursday. After the early-morning storm, those who could made the most of the chance to have breakfast in the sun with sea views.

The end of the tourist season coincides with the consequences of last month’s storms, which flooded the streets of Ibiza and caused significant damage to ground floors, basements and the municipality’s coastline. More than thirteen days have passed since the first storm, ‘Ex-Gabrielle’, yet the ses Figueretes walkway remains destroyed, collapsed by the force of the water. According to the City Council, repairs are expected to begin in the coming days.
In one section of the beach, a pool of stagnant water has formed next to the lifeguard hut, generating strong odours. Even the sand appears dirtier than usual.
