Marina concessionaire declares Ibiza ‘a true paradise for yachts’

Ports grants the concession to relaunch and develop the marina for large yachts in the port of Ibiza to the consortium formed by Ocean Capital Partners (OCP), Grupo Empresas Matutes and Island Global Yachting (IGY)

The consortium formed by Ocean Capital Partners (OCP), Grupo Empresas Matutes and Island Global Yachting (IGY) has been awarded the concession to re-launch and develop the marina for large yachts in the port of Ibiza, which will bear the name of IGY Ibiza Marina, as it has advanced this Thursday Diario de Ibiza. The facilities will accommodate boats between 20 and 140 meters throughout the year, as explained by the concessionaire operating in the port on a temporary basis since June 2022.

The project is born with the medium-term objective of boosting the deseasonalization of the destination of Ibiza and promote the arrival of large ships during the months that are not part of the summer season, when the island is already a prominent place internationally, highlights the consortium after the definitive management for eight years and five months was announced.

Increase services

Once the concession is formalized, the project for this marina will includes increasing its range of serviceswhich will incorporate a power supply service for large vessels, fiber optics, closed-circuit surveillance cameras, crew facilities and a modern office.

Spanish company OCP has been operating Málaga’s megayacht marina, IGY Málaga Marina, since 2019, “which has been converted a benchmark for port-city integration, as well as in terms of environmental sustainability,” the consortium explains in a note.

The U.S. group IGY also has a minority participation in this project. In the case of Ibiza, the project also has the participation of Grupo Empresas Matuteswhich contributes its extensive experience on the island.

“Consolidating its position”

“We believe Ibiza will benefit from the implementation of this project, helping it to consolidate its position as a destination location in the Mediterranean,” says José Luis Almazán, CEO of Ocean Capital Partners. “Extending the season of stay of these vessels and breaking the seasonality associated with this marina is an ambitious goal, which will not be achieved in one day, but we are convinced that, with the effort and collaboration of all, we will manage to turn this project into a model of port-city integration.”

“Grupo Empresas Matutes is excited to be part of this team that will work together to make this a world-class marina,” he added Salvador Ortiz de Montellano, CEO of Grupo Empresas Matutes.

“Ibiza is a true paradise for yachts and, as such, fits perfectly with our goal of connecting the world’s most attractive destinations for these vessels, while guaranteeing the highest levels of comfort and service,” states Steve English, President of IGY Marina.

“IGY is very grateful for the confidence expressed by the Balearic Islands Port Authority in granting us the opportunity to enhance and promote this incredible superyacht destination to the international market,” concludes English.
