Formentera hotels exceed expectations and reach 2019 figures

In terms of hotel room sales, September and October have been "extraordinary."

The Formentera hotel sector has exceeded all expectations for this season in terms of occupancy. The month of August has been “very good” and for September and October sales are at the same level or higher than last year. The season began with some misgivings but from June onwards, with a hotel occupancy rate of 50%, activity grew and was confirmed in a “very satisfactory” month of July.

The president of Formentera Hotel Association, Juanma Costa, said: “We didn’t expect a summer like this one, I myself underestimated the results, taking into account the covid fear factor”. But the reality has been very different, as he himself explained: “Even though we remain cautious, the fear of travelling has practically disappeared, and we have far exceeded expectations, in May we would all have signed up for a season like this one”, he said.

As a result, Formentera’s hotel occupancy in August has been “very good”, despite the fact that August occupancy figures from the Ibiza and Formentera Hotel Federation put it at eight points lower than the same month in 2019. Costa was sceptical about this figure: “I was surprised because, as far as I know and speaking to other hotels, we have been at similar levels to 2019”.
