The surprising Ibizan connection between Amancio Ortega and Leonardo DiCaprio

Leonardo DiCaprio, 49-year-old actor, is in Ibiza with his partner, 26-year-old model Vittoria Ceretti, sailing in the waters of Ibiza aboard the luxury yacht ‘Vassa’.

The American has arrived to the island sailing from Sardinia and in Ibiza he has been seen enjoying both day and night accompanied by other friends, such as the actor Toby Maguire, with whom he ate at a famous restaurant in Formentera. During his stay on the island, DiCaprio and Maguire have resided in a villa known as ‘Monterey’, a 30,000 square meter estate located in the hills of the Bellavista area, overlooking the bay of Portmany.

The incredible connection between DiCaprio and Amancio Ortega is the boat with which the actor is enjoying the Mediterranean. The ‘Vassa’ is a luxury yacht of 69 meters in length.

Built in 2012, ‘Vassa’ offers accommodation for up to ten guests in five suites. It can also carry up to fifteen crew on board. The Spanish magnate Amancio Ortega (owner of Inditex) commissioned the construction of this ship to Feadship in 2008 for, allegedly, 95 million euros and received it in 2012. The owner of Zara named it ‘Drizzle’.

When Ortega decided to put the ‘Drizzle’ up for sale a decade later, it became one of the 25 most expensive superyachts of the momentwith an asking price of approximately 76 million euros. It took a while to sell it, compared to other famous superyachts that change hands in record time and with additional rebates. In the end, the price for which the ‘Drizzle’ was sold was not as expected, almost 20 million euros less compared to the 2021 price and 30 million less than its original value.

The yacht was sold discreetly, a transaction closed by a Mallorca-based agency originally appointed by the fashion mogul in 2021, and both the new owner and the buying broker decided to remain anonymous, although everything points to it being in the hands of a Russian billionaire, who changed the name from ‘Drizzle’ to ‘Vassa’.

The ‘Vassa’ is currently for rent. It is priced at about 600.000 euros per week.
