The entire crew of the sailboat ‘Lucky One’, consiting of eight people, was rescued yesterday morning, around 5.30am, outside the port of La Savina by the helicopter ‘Helimer 205’, of Salvamento Marítimo, confirmed the head of the service, Miguel Félix Chicón. The vessel has not caused spills in the area.
Due to the bad state of the sea, at that time the wind direction was from east to north, the boat that anchored outside the port of La Savina, near the fishermen’s wharf, began to have problems drifting towards the coast, where it finally ran aground.
Given the bad weather conditions, at night and with the difficulty of disembarking directly on land, the Maritime Rescue service opted to “ensure the safety of people” and evacuated them by air because of the possibility that if they landed on the coast, which was about ten meters away, they could suffer damage from the onslaught of the waves.
