There is finally a confirmed date for the opening of the Parador de Ibiza. The hotel will be inaugurated on 23 February, as announced on Wednesday morning at the Paradores stand at FITUR by the Secretary of State for Tourism, Rosario Sánchez. She was joined by the president of Paradores, Raquel Sánchez, and the Director General of Turespaña, Miguel Sanz.
The announcement puts an end to years of speculation, during which the Ibizan delegation repeatedly attended tourism fairs—particularly the Madrid event—only to receive tentative assurances from Spain’s tourism authorities that ultimately failed to materialise. The Minister for Tourism, Jordi Hereu, was not present at the announcement, although he had attended a closed event for Paradores members at the same stand shortly beforehand.
Official opening on 23 February
According to Sánchez, the Parador will be officially inaugurated on Monday, 23 February. In addition, bookings will open next Monday, 26 January, via the Paradores website, allowing the first guests to stay at the hotel from 10 March onwards.
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, this marks the conclusion of a project that has been in development for almost two decades and has required a total investment of €43.2 million, according to figures from the Ministry of Tourism. Much of both the significant investment and the lengthy delays stem from the fact that the project involved “one of the largest archaeological excavations carried out in Spain in recent years, as well as the restoration” of this section of the historic heritage of Dalt Vila. As with all hotels in the national Paradores network, part of the site will now be open to the public.
