Storm Harry has hit the Pitiusas with force. Rain began falling in Ibiza and Formentera on Monday afternoon and, according to forecasts from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), is expected to persist throughout the day. Meteorologists have kept a yellow alert in place until 18.00 on Tuesday.
As reported on Aemet’s social media channels, in the last 12 hours — up to 8.00 on Tuesday — close to 60 litres per square metre have accumulated in some areas of Ibiza. Specifically, 57 litres per square metre were recorded in Sant Joan, 51 in Sant Antoni, 48 in the Santa Eulària area and 38 in Ibiza Town. In Formentera, rainfall reached 26 litres per square metre.
The storm also poses a significant risk due to coastal conditions. Northerly winds with gusts of up to 70 kilometres per hour are forecast, along with waves of four to five metres. Meteorologists also warn that peak waves of around 10 metres could be recorded, prompting calls for caution in coastal areas and along seafront promenades. For this reason, an orange alert for coastal phenomena remains in force until 20.00.
Strong northerly winds are expected to persist throughout the day, leading Aemet to maintain a yellow alert for wind until 18.00.
The stormy conditions are expected to continue over the Pitiusas in the coming days. On Wednesday, skies are forecast to clear, although winds will remain strong. Aemet will keep a yellow alert for coastal phenomena in place in Ibiza and Formentera until midday, with waves forecast to reach up to four metres.
