Economic losses caused by the floods that hit the island of Ibiza this autumn exceed 35 million euros, according to Maria Fajarnés, councillor for the Department of Economic Promotion of the Consell Insular, who made the figure public on Thursday.
The Ibiza City Council has reported losses of 29 million euros to the Ministry of Territorial Policy, while damages in Sant Josep are estimated at between four and five million. Santa Eulària and Sant Joan have reported losses of one million and 300,000 euros respectively. The Consell is still assessing its own damages and does not yet have a final figure, although it already knows the amount will exceed 300,000 euros.
To help mitigate these losses, the Consell has activated an initial aid package worth five million euros, provided by the regional administration as non-repayable funds. The institution estimates that four million euros will go to companies, while the remaining one million will be allocated to individuals.
Applications for the aid open this Friday and the deadline to submit requests is 8 January. The aid is divided into two categories: one for individuals and another for self-employed workers and SMEs. Applications may be submitted online or in person at the Consell’s offices.
