2 injured, at least one seriously, after a house collapses in Santa Eulària

At least two workers were injured on Thursday after the roof of a house under construction collapsed in the Valverde urbanisation in Santa Eulària.

According to the City Council, one of the injured men, a 53-year-old Senegalese national, was transferred by SAMU061 to Can Misses Hospital with a traumatic brain injury. The other worker, a 28-year-old Colombian, was taken to the Policlínica Nuestra Señora del Rosario, according to the Balearic Ministry of Labour. The Health Area of Ibiza and Formentera reports that the first man is in a stable condition despite the severity of his injuries. He remains under observation in the emergency department with multiple contusions.

As reported by Diario de Ibiza, the accident occurred around midday when the roof of the house where they were working collapsed on the two men for reasons that have not yet been disclosed. The area was subsequently cordoned off by Santa Eulària Local Police after emergency services had attended the scene.

The Fire Department confirmed that they rescued one of the workers from the rubble, who appeared to have sustained only minor injuries to one of his feet.

The Balearic Government’s Labour Department stated that the protocol for workplace accidents was activated “immediately”. A technician from the Balearic Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Ibassal) and another from the Labour Inspectorate were deployed to the site. They will now inspect the area and prepare a report on the condition of the two injured workers.

Local Police, Civil Protection officers, firefighters and medical teams were all mobilised to assist one of the workers who had been trapped.
