UD Ibiza back to old habits

A mistake by Manu Molina in the first half and an absurd penalty by Goldar in the second condemned UD Ibiza in the duel of the best debutants | Herrera equalised and had a chance to make it 2-1 with a 35-yard shot, but the VAR ruled it out.

UD Ibiza returned to their old ways yesterday at El Plantío, where two glaring errors by Manu Molina and David Goldar condemned the Ibizan team to defeat in the duel between the two best debutants of LaLiga SmartBank (2-1). Paco Jémez‘s team had enough chances to take the win, but two defensive errors once again took their toll on UD Ibiza, who now say goodbye to their chances of fighting for the play-offs. Cristian Herrera, who scored the equalizer and who came close to the 1-2 with a ‘phantom’ goal in the second half, was the best news for the Celestes in their visit to Burgos.

The presence of Javi Lara in midfield alongside Manu Molina and Pape Diop, to the detriment of Guerrero in midfield, was the only change that Paco Jémez introduced at El Plantío compared to the win against Eibar. And everything seemed to be going well, with UD Ibiza dominating with a greater presence in the opposition’s half than their opponents, until an unfortunate defensive action allowed Burgos to take the lead 25 minutes into the game. Manu Molina gave the ball away to his opponent with an ill-timed back-heel at the edge of the box; Valcarce took advantage of the mistake to power his way into the box and his back-pass was finished off by Juanma. 1-0.

UD Ibiza unable to find resources

The goal spurred on the Burgos side, who until then had been unused in attack, and in the following minutes they were able to add to their tally against a visibly weakened UD Ibiza side. Paco Jémez was not shaken and punished Manu Molina’s action by substituting him for Guerrero on the half hour mark. The Celestes, however, were unable to find the resources to overcome their opponents’ lines and ended the first half trapped in their own territory and with no chance of equalising. On the other hand, Alegría, Valcarce and Matos were a nuisance for the Ibizan backline, who went to the break with Goldar and Juan Ibiza cautioned. Burgos did not commit a single foul in 45 minutes, compared to 10 for UD Ibiza.
