Formentera Half Marathon: Borja Rodríguez and Ionela Clara triumph in the 21km

Many amateur participants complain about the poor organization of the water supply at the refreshment points of the Formentera Half Marathon.

Borja Rodríguez (Asociación Atlética de Móstoles), a young athlete who was already familiar Formentera, smashed the Formentera Half Marathon race between the La Mola lighthouse and La Savina, setting an impossible pace for his rivals right from the start. In fact, he ran the whole course alone, except for the first two kilometers. From that moment on he had no references on his pace or even if he was going to last the whole race. In the end he managed to cross the finish line with one of the best times in the history of the Formentera Half Marathon. Borja did not leave any option for his competitors and imposed a frantic pace from the beginning that resulted in crossing the finish line in a time below last year’s with one hour, ten minutes and 23 seconds.

He was closely followed at the beginning by Andreu Marimón, who could not hold the pace of the Spaniard, although in the last meters he managed to gain ground and reached the finish line 36 seconds behind. The men’s podium was completed by Toni Gran, with a time of 1h13’35”.

Borja Rodríguez leaves his mark in the Formentera Half Marathon’s history books. He suffered in the last meters, passing through Ses Salines, when he had only a few kilometers left to reach La Savina, where yesterday afternoon the humidity and heat became the participant’s worst enemy, which was an explosive mixture for these runners. When he reached the finish line he collapsed, he could not take it anymore. He had to be assisted by the medical staff, but after a few minutes he was in perfect condition.

Ionela Clara wins Formentera Half Marathon

As for the female runners, the Romanian Ionela Clara, who lives in Valencia and whose parents live in Formentera, was the first to reach the finish line with a time of 1 hour 27’56” to run the 21 kilometers between the La Mola lighthouse and the port of La Savina, where the finish line was located. Isabel Parra was the second classified, with a time of 1h29’35” and third Elena Sánchez, with a time of 1h30’10”.
